Youths in Pibor protest removal of Boyoi

Several youths in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area took to the streets on Thursday to protest the removal of Gola Boyoi Gola as chief administrator of the area by President Salva Kiir.
However, the peaceful protests were later thwarted by the security.
On Wednesday, President Kiir sacked Gola Boyoi Gola as the Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area and appointed Peter Guluzu as the new area administrator.
Jacob Werchum Jok, the Minister of Information and Communication in Greater Pibor Administrative Area downplayed the protest, saying it was a small protest carried out by a few youths which consisted of school children.
He said the group was expressing their dissatisfaction with the leadership changes made by the President on Wednesday evening.
“So, the youth complained about why the leadership in Juba brought in a new leader and removed a leader that had earned the trust of the people,” he explained.
“This is the reason for their grievances. So, they went to the streets but upon the intervention of police and other organized forces, the youth came back to their normal area.”
Jok added that the situation was calm because there was no security threats, but a peaceful demonstration.
