Yei Joints Stars women’s team hammered City Stars Women 6-0 to win their second consecutive Yei Local Women’s South Sudan Cup 2021 (Y-LW-SSC) in Yei town on Sunday.

The winners put up an impressive performance against the City Stars FC in front of thousands of football fans, culminating in a very exciting and entertaining final.

It was almost one woman’s show, as Yei Joint Stars forward Aliwaranga Deborah Secord scored four of the six goals.

The formidable performance by the South Sudan Women’s National League title holders cements their position as one of the top achievers in the sport in the country.

The champions wrapped up the Yei Local Women’s Football Association competition with a clean sheet.

They scored 57 goals in 3 games, beating every team they met by more than 10 goals. In the finals, they smashed six goals past the helpless City Stars to finish the campaign on a high note.

Attendees

The finals were attended by several government dignitaries, led by the Central Equatoria Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, and South Sudan Football Association Vice President, Charles Udwar.

Speaking shortly after the last whistle, Central Equatoria Governor, Emanuel Adil Anthony, congratulated the Yei Joint Stars for clinching the Y-LFA-SSC.

Adil encouraged the City Stars to aim for better next time, saying losing did not mean the end of everything.

“I am happy with Yei Joint Stars for not only winning the Yei championship title but also for representing South Sudan in the Cecafa Women’s Championship,” he said.

Adil reiterated his government’s commitment to mobilising resources to install artificial turf in Yei, calling on well-wishers through SSFA to help in the mobilisation of resources for this project.

Governor Adil praised the South Sudan Football Association, under the new leadership, saying that SSFA is moving in the right direction in its quest to develop football in South Sudan.

For his part, the SSFA vice president, Charles Udwar, acknowledged the best performances put on the pitch by the finalists.

“I must appreciate the two teams for their incredible performances displayed on the pitch. I am really happy about the level of women’s football in Yei. I must say, continue with the spirit and continue to practice the sport, ” he stated.

Mr Odwar urged the girls to be on their toes, for the upcoming women’s football events.

He appealed to the leadership of the Central Equatoria government to continue supporting football activities in the state, especially women’s football.
