A 17-year-old boy in Yambio, Eastern Equatoria State on Tuesday escaped death after he was shot in the mouth by an unknown assailant.
The incident happened at the quarry site at Mount Gabat as the teenager was collecting aggregate for sale.
Mr. Fikin Ceaser Samson, a relative of the victim and a teacher at Bazugua Primary School, recounted the harrowing ordeal, saying he rushed to the scene after receiving the sad news.
He said he was able to transport the boy to Yambio State Hospital for urgent medical care.
Despite the severity of the gunshot wound in his mouth, the victim did not suffer any bone fractures, something that Samson described as “divine protection.”
In an emotional plea, Samson called on the state authority to take swift action. “The person who did this must be brought to justice. The safety of our community depends on it,” he urged.
Medical professionals at Yambio State Hospital have confirmed that the boy is in stable condition and still under close observation for a complete recovery.
According to the Western Equatoria State Police Commissioner, they have launched an investigation to bring the suspect into the book.
