The press secretary of the leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition faction of Kitgwang Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual has resigned from the breakaway outfit.

In his resignation letter dated February 2, 2022, James Kalany Mamuon claimed that his decision to join the group was to guide them toward peace and that now after the group had signed the peace agreement it was time for him to contribute to the nation-building.

“This is to inform my friends, colleagues and the general public that I have resigned as the press secretary of Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual, the leader of SPLM-IO Kitgwang,” he said.

“After the generals deposed the leadership of SPLM-IO, I decided to support the Principle of the Kitgwang declaration” the military wing of our former movement and help to guide them toward peace. Now that the peace is signed, I have decided to contribute towards our nation-building through a different platform since I am not a soldier but a civilian,” Kalany added.

He praised his former SPLM-IO Kitgwang members for their unwavering support and collaboration.

“You have all been terrific comrades, and I am looking forward to working with you all in the future as we fight to establish (building) a nation,” he said.

When contacted for his next destination, Kalany said he has not joined any party yet, saying he will remain as an ordinary citizen of the country.

“In the first place, I didn’t join Kitgwang, but I supported the principle of Kitgwang. The group is not new that should be joined; rather, it is the military wing of our former movements that seek to restore security across South Sudan following Dr. Riek Machar’s failure to drive the movements in the right direction.”

“I am not a military; instead, I am a civilian.  I will contribute as a South Sudanese citizen,” he said.
