Western Equatoria cabinet vent of over cancellation of Councils’ meetings
A section of cabinet minister from Western Equatoria have decried the cancellation of the council of Ministers’ meeting.
The ministers stated in a document yesterday that the area governor of WES, Lt Gen Alfred Futuyo, had “repeatedly rejected, postponed, and cancelled the regular council of ministers meeting.’’
Around 10 ministries signed the document sent to the media on Wednesday, where they blamed the governor for failing to meet the expectations in the management of the state’s affairs as enshrined in the peace agreement since the formation of the government of the state last year on June 25.
‘‘It has now been two months since the last council of ministers meeting, which was held on April 22, 2022 after the council of ministers pleaded with the governor to allow them to meet urgently to discuss issues affecting the people of Western Equatoria State,” the document read in part.
As per the document, 11 regular and three extra-ordinary council of ministers’ meetings were held in 2021, while seven regular councils of ministers’ meetings were held in 2022.
“The few council of ministers’ meetings [were] held and their resolutions approved, [but] only a few of them have been implemented,’’ the ministers complained.
‘‘The majority of them are not implemented because the governor uses his supreme power to decide which resolutions are to be financed for implementation and which are not.’’
They now claim the absence of the meetings has paralysed the operations in Western Equatoria because the governor ‘‘makes unilateral decisions on all state matters, resulting in a one-man show government, which is contrary to the R-ARCSS.’’
The minister said that most of the time, specifically on Fridays, the date designated for the council of ministers’ meetings.
The City Review reached out to Governor Futuyo’s Press Secretary, Alex Didi, for a rebuttal to the allegations. Didi promised to get back, but he never did so by the time of going to the press.
