WES govt. donates SSP6million to community association to spur unity, peace

The government of Western Equatoria State has thrown its weight behind the Undopai Community Association, with a donation of SSP6million.
The state also donated a set of bicycles, and official registration certificates during the official launch of the association on Saturday in Hai Kuzee residential area, Yambio Town.
The launch, presided over by Acting Governor Daniel Badagbu, marked a milestone in community-led development efforts within Western Equatoria State.
The Undopai Community Association, established six months ago, has quickly gained recognition for its grassroots-driven vision.
“This is not just a donation; it’s an investment in our people. I am deeply encouraged by the dedication of this group.” “Their work is critical, and I pledge the government’s continued support to help them thrive,” stated Daniel during the launch.
The SSP 6 million grant and bicycles are aimed at strengthening the association’s capacity to reach communities and deliver social services, including trauma counseling, orphanage support, and livelihood development programs.
Meanwhile, the bicycles are expected to facilitate field activities across remote neighborhoods.
Undopai’s focus on cooperative savings, grassroots empowerment, and social healing aligns with the government’s broader goal of restoring peace and stability in the state. By promoting local ownership of development and peace initiatives, the association offers a model for how community unity can combat long-standing challenges such as inter-communal tension and poverty.
“Western Equatoria can never be stabilized unless the people take charge of their own development, own their security, and embrace love and nationalism to support themselves,” said Daniel.
Also speaking at the event, Yambio Town Mayor Singira John Miarihewari lauded the association as a beacon of hope and urged other neighborhoods to emulate their example.
“I am truly happy with what I witnessed today. It brings joy to see communities organizing themselves to uplift one another. Undopai is not just a group it is a movement that embodies true community spirit,” the mayor remarked.
The Undopai Community Association Development Group currently comprises 56 women and 10 men. One of its members emphasized the group’s purpose citing that.
“We are a growing family with a clear vision to support, uplift, and help one another. We believe that only through unity can we build a better future for ourselves and our communities.”
