WES acting Governor challenges youth to lead with vision, purpose

The acting Governor of Western Equatoria State, Daniel Badagbu, has urged the youth to set clear life goals, have vision and choose genuine friendships that foster growth and development.
Speaking during an engagement with Western Equatoria State Students’ Union under the WES Youth Union, Badagbu addressed the concerns raised by the student leaders, including lack of office space, limited youth development programs and a shrinking pool of opportunities for school leavers.
“Don’t follow the crowd, set your own vision, define your goals, and surround yourself with friends who challenge and support your dreams,” he advised.
He however, emphasized that true leadership begins with self-discipline and purpose, particularly at a time when many young people feel lost or pressured by peer trends.
The governor’s address was warmly received by student leaders, many of whom viewed it as a renewed commitment to youth empowerment in a state where education infrastructure and post-school opportunities remain fragile.
“This message gives us hope, especially at a time when most students are uncertain about their future,” said Martha Valerio, a third-year university student and youth activist. “We need leaders who speak to our struggles and walk with us.”
Governor Rimbasa also assured the youth of his full support, promising to explore ways the state government can improve the education system and bridge the gap between academic achievement and practical opportunity.
“Stay focused, be patient, and keep working hard. We are here to guide you and provide the environment where you can thrive,” he added.
By encouraging dialogue and recognizing student-led concerns, the state is laying the foundation for more inclusive and responsive governance.
