Wau’s Al-Hilal FC players awarded with plots

Governor of Western Equatoria State Sarah Cleto has given a piece of land to each player of Al-Hilal FC for winning the 2021/2022 South Sudan Cup.
The club won the 2021/2022 South Sudan Cup in Juba last month, defeating Zalan FC of Rumbek in the final.
Murwan Anour and Esam Ezaden scored in the South Sudan Cup final to give the South Sudan giants sweet revenge and victory against Rumbek heavyweights Zalan FC.
The winners also pocket $20,000, which the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has set aside for the squad that will be proclaimed the competition’s victor this year.
Last week, the players arrived in Wau, where they received heroic welcome from both the state administration and supporters.
Addressing the players on Monday in Wau, Cleto said the entire state was excited and proud of what the team had accomplished in bringing the South Sudan Cup home.
She expressed her delight at the team’s victory in the South Sudan Cup, adding that it was a great achievement.
Cleto expressed regret for the state government’s lack of support for the squad while in Juba, claiming a lack of funding in the state as the reason.
“As a token of thanks, each of you will be granted a plot in recognition of your outstanding success. You have raised the bar in our state, so you are entitled to more,” Cleto said.
She said all members of the team should be aware of the schemes.
The governor stressed that her government was devoted to ensuring the development of sports across the state, saying it was the only tool that can bring adolescents together as the government seeks long-term peace.
Al-Hilal FC of Wau has been crowned champions of the South Sudan Cup last month, February 22, 2022, after defeating Zalan FC of Rumbek 2-0.
The victors of this year’s event will now go to the CAF Confederation to represent their country.
Al-Hilal FC has officially taken over from Atlabara FC Juba, the top South Sudanese team in various continental competitions, including the CAF Champions League.
