At least 500 cattle belonging to the Misseriya herders were recovered by the Unity State government on Sunday.
Gatwich Bipal Both, the State Minister of Information and Telecommunication said the 500 cattle were raided by the area’s armed youth living in Rubkona County.
He said the displacement of the Misseriya nomads by the war in Sudan has made them vulnerable to the armed youth from Unity State.
“The Unity State government directed the security personnel to recover the cattle belonging to the Misseriya, which were raided over the weekend, and the cattle were recovered by the organized forces. SSPDF soldiers were part of the security forces that recovered the cattle,” he said.
Bipal said the cattle were handed over to the rightful owners on Monday.
“No one was reported killed or wounded from either side. They are safe only the cattle raided were returned to the owners.”
