UAE President Sheikh Khalifa is dead
The President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan is dead.
Sheikh Khalifa who is one of the richest monarchs in the world, died Friday, May 13.
He was 73.
His death threw the oil-rich nation into a 40-day mourning period with flags at half-mast from Friday.
There will be no work for both the public and private sectors for the first three days.
Sheikh Khalifa half-brother, Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan has since taken charge of state affairs.
The al-Nahyan family is estimated to have a fortune in excess of $150bn (£123bn).
Khalifa served as UAE president since 2004, though his role had been largely ceremonial since he suffered a stroke in 2014.
He succeeded his father as the 16th ruler of Abu Dhabi.
