Two foreign teachers arrested over attempted rape
Two teachers of foreign nationalities are in police custody over an alleged attempted rape of a 16-year girl in Aweil.
Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State confirmed Wednesday, July 20, that they arrested the two teachers attached to King Solomon School.
According to the NBG State Police Headquarters, Philip Katende, 30 and Henry Iseko (34), were apprehended over rape charges.
“It’s true that the two teachers of King Solomon are being investigated by police for attempted rape of 16-year-old girl, (name withheld for security reasons),” Police said in a statement seen by City Review.
Police, however, did not reveal the nationalities of the said teachers.
“It’s reported that the first rape attempt was committed by Henry Iseko against the innocent girl on 1st July 2022 at Maper West but the matter was resolved at the family level without reaching police,” read a statement by the Police Public Relations department.
The second attempt on the same victim, according to police, was committed by Philip Katende on 15th July 2022.
“The girl was courageous enough to pressure her mother to report the matter to the police,” added the statement attributed to NBG State Police Headquarters.
“Immediately, hear [sic] the case, we took the matter seriously and started an investigation accordingly.”
Police however warn the general public, especially families, to stop covering up such cases without considering the pain of the innocent child.
“Without reporting such behaviour, you’re encouraging rapists to continue with their evil acts. In actual sense, you are protecting the criminal, not your child.”
An investigation is ongoing before they are arraigned to answer to the charges under Section 63/247 and 248 of the penal code.
