The Government of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has strongly condemned a deadly armed attack in Manyabol Payam of Gumuruk County that left at least three people dead and several others abducted.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, Information Minister Jacob Werchum Juok said the attack occurred on February 11, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., when suspected criminals believed to be from neighboring Jonglei State launched an assault on the area.
According to Werchum, the attack resulted in the deaths of three people and left four others wounded.
He stated that the assailants also reportedly raided about 375 heads of cattle and abducted 12 children and five women.
“The Government of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area strongly condemns the armed attack that took place in Manyabol Payam,” said Werchum.
The GPAA called for immediate intervention from neighboring authorities.
“The GPAA authorities condemn this criminal act in the strongest terms possible and urgently call upon the Jonglei State authorities to intervene, investigate and recover the seventeen abducted women and children, and recover the stolen cattle,” he said .
He warned that the violence threatens ongoing peace efforts in the region.
“This brutal act of violence undermines and directly contradicts the spirit of peace and the collaborative efforts toward security stability in the region,” Said Werchum.
The GPAA also expressed concern that the incident may be retaliatory in nature.
Authorities noted that the attack appears linked to recent incidents in Duk and Baidit.
“Such violence severely undermines ongoing efforts… to investigate recent attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.” He said.
In recent weeks, Jonglei State government have been reporting series of attacks in the recent incidents Baidit payam were more than 3,000 heads of cattle were raided.
