Super Stars dump Amarat United out of SSCUP

The Juba Champions, Amarat United FC have been eliminated from the 2021/2022 South Sudan Cup by Bor giants, Super Stars, after conceding a late goal in their second game of the knockout.

Amarat needed only a draw to reach the finals.  However, they failed to either win or draw, subjecting the team’s fans to disappointment.

The first leg ended 4-3 in favour of the Juba giants. The game almost brought a fight after fans alleged poor officiating.

Both teams finished 4-4 on aggregate, but due to the away goal rule, Bor Giants advanced to the Zone Two finals with a 1-0 win over Amarat United, who failed to touch the opposition’s net.

Super Star Bor will now face the Eastern Equatoria State sub-local massive Jebel Koteen, who knocked out their own EES team, Malakia FC of Torit.

The Mountain boys finished their last game with a 2-2 draw, which saw them advance to a 9-2 aggregate after their first game ended diminishing at 7-0.

It was the first time in the South Sudan Cup’s history that teams from Juba were eliminated in the semifinal stages. It stands, South Sudan is waiting to witness who will now be crowned this year’s South Sudan Cup.

The finals of the South Sudan Cup in Juba’s zone two between Jebel Koteen of Kapoeta and Bor’s Super Star will be on Sunday.

They were the only team that had played more matches than any other team in the zone, which was considered a sub-local football association.

The two teams from Zone 2 will, however, have to wait for the winners from Zones 1 and 3 to arrive in Juba to compete for the title of South Sudan Cup Champion.

Joseph Ladu, the assistant coach of Bor Super Stars, congratulated his team, saying they really struggled for it and deserved the victory.

“Amarat United is one of the best teams in the country. We respect them. Of course, it was a tough game for us because it was our first time in the competition, we made it to this stage. I thank our boys for the good display,” Ladu said.

However, he said it is not yet over for them and encouraged his players to work hard to add more energy as they are going to face the Jebel boys of Torit.
