SSPDF soldier on shooting spree kills three people in Gogrial

A soldier belonging to the South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF) has killed three people in the area, said the Gogrial East County administration.

The authorities said the soldier stormed Konglong Boma with a knife and a gun and killed three people.

The Commissioner of Gogriel East County, Maluac Lueth said, “The officer killed two women and one man. He slew the two women with a knife and shot the man using a gun. “

When asked, Major Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, the Spokesperson of the SSPDF, confirmed the incident, saying a regimental Sergeant Major Yel Aweer Kuac went to his village Konglong in Ajogo Payam of Gongriel East County.

Mr. Kuac was also shot dead by colleagues after a peaceful attempt to arrest him failed.

Maj Gen Lul said the late Kuac had received information during the Christmas festive season that his wife was having an extramarital affair with another man.

“At around 4 am he woke up his wife, tied her hands, and took her to the bush where he slit her throat and left her dead, ” said Koang

He said Kuac went to the house of his uncle, who was away at the time, and “he took his uncle’s wife, led her to the bush and shot her in the head and went as far as chopping off her head.” Then he went to another place and found another man and shot him dead. “

“In the process, he went on a shooting spree. The security forces attempted to arrest him so that he could be investigated, but he fired at them, resisting arrest using armed confrontation, and as a result, he was shot dead. So all in all, a total of 4 people died,” Maj. Gen Lul confirmed.

The County Commissioner, Lueth, said Friday’s incident was the second attack in two days when unidentified armed men killed two people and injured two others who had gone fishing in the area. 

 “Among the two who got killed, one was a minor and the other a child of 12 years old,” he said.
