South Sudan to face Ethiopia in CHAN Qualifiers

South Sudan has been drawn against Ethiopia in the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying matches.

The draw was held on June 26, 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.

The winner of the match between South Sudan and Ethiopia will face Rwanda in the second round.

The game will be played both home and away.

The competition is reserved for players who compete in their respective domestic leagues.

South Sudan first competed in CHAN qualifying games in 2017, and advanced to the next stage after defeating Somalia in both home and away games.

The country has never advanced beyond the preliminary round of the competition.

Her most recent appearance was in the 2020 qualifications where it lost both legs to Burundi, thus concluding in the preliminary round.

The next year’s competition will feature 18 teams instead of the previous 16 positions, after the Confederation of African Football agreed to raise the number of competitors.
