South Sudan receives SSP29 million from IGAD

Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has donated SSP29 million ($100,000) to South Sudan to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.

First Vice President Riek Machar Teny described the contribution as “a generous act” and appealed to more partners to donate to the cause of combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Machar said further that the government was tracking contacts of the two cases of the disease that have already been confirmed and will inform the public of the outcome ongoing laboratory tests as soon possible.

The head of liaison office for IGAD in South Sudan Tesfay Negasa said the donation will not be the last as the regional body has lined up more until the pandemic is contained. 

South Sudan confirmed its first case of Covid-19 last weekend. The number increased to four on last Sunday after another case was confirmed.
