South Sudan, China Reaffirm Strategic Partnership in High-Level Talks

Monday Semaya K. Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, has held bilateral talks with Ma Qiang, Ambassador of the China to South Sudan, in a meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting, described as constructive and forward-looking, focused on enhancing collaboration in key sectors including oil, education, and capacity building. Both sides explored opportunities to expand scholarship programmes and deepen knowledge exchange as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties.
During the discussions, Minister Kumba conveyed New Year greetings and best wishes from Salva Kiir Mayardit to his Chinese counterpart, reaffirming the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between South Sudan and China.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to deepening relations with China, guided by shared interests and mutual benefit. The minister emphasized that cooperation in the oil sector remains central to South Sudan’s economic priorities, while education partnerships are key to building human capital.
Ambassador Ma Qiang welcomed the continued engagement between the two countries, noting the strong foundation of cooperation already established. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with South Sudan, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration across sectors of mutual interest.
The talks reflect ongoing efforts by both nations to reinforce diplomatic and economic ties, as South Sudan seeks to leverage international partnerships to support its development agenda.
