S. Sudanese dies in Uganda where he had gone to register as a refugee
Police in Uganda have launched investigation into the death of a South Sudanese refugee who died on the eve of South Sudan’s Independence Day celebration.
The lifeless body of Paul Gawar, a student at Pagirinya Primary School in Adjumani District, in Uganda, was found on the streets in what is suspected to be murder.
The incident happened last Friday at a local trading centre in Pagirinya Refugee Settlement. The body was retrieved on Saturday, the day that most South Sudanese were marking 11th year of independence.
Gawar, 21, was a residence of block 10 in Pagirinya settlement.
“His body was found lying in the trading centre near the shop of the woman called Akoth Paula. After receiving the information police officers visited the scene and are now hunting for the killers. No suspect has so far been arrested in connection with the matter,” police spokesperson told The Monitor.
Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was from attending a night disco, The Monitor added.
Gawar recently arrived to Uganda from South Sudan, to participate in the ongoing verification of the refugees, being carried out by the UNHCR and the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
