Referee dies in road accident

A local female football referee has died in a road accident.

Esther Tuna was reportedly knocked dead by a water-tank on Tuesday. The incident took place in Juba’s Seventh Days Round-About.

According to South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Deputy Secretary-General, Joseph Apai Tuna succumbed to the injuries sustained a road carnage.

“She died yesterday in the evening. She was involved in a car accident while on boda-boda,” Apai told City Review via phone.

An SSFA statement reads: “SSFA management and its entire staff is shocked to learn of the unexpected death of South Sudan Women’s Referee, Esther Tuna, who died in an accident involving a motorcycle (Boda boda) and a water tanker yesterday 14th June 2022 at Seven Days Roundabout.

“SSFA is therefore conveying its profound condolences to the family, relatives, Torit Football Association and the entire football fraternity of South Sudan.”

Tuna was on her way to Munuki playground to officiate a football in the ongoing third edition of the Super Championship.
