Ram sentenced to three years in jail
A ram from Rumbek East County, Lakes State, has been sentenced to three years in ‘jail’.
The poor animal was found guilty of ‘murder’ and will now spend the next 36 months in confinement, at a military camp in Aduel County headquarters in Lakes State.
The ram that spent the whole of last week in ‘custody’ before the judgement hammer fell on May 17, had been accused of killing a 40-year-old woman last.
The woman is said to have suffered multiple fractures, including broken ribs from the headbutts by the killer animal as she tried to get up from a sitting position.
She later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the bloody attack.
“Our role as police is to provide safety and separate fights,” Mabor Makuac, police spokesperson, Lake State, said last week while confirming the bizarre arrest.
Not only did the killer animal receive a lengthy sentence, but also left its owner, Duony Manyang Dhal five-cow poor.
The fine (five cows) will be handed to the family of the deceased in what the elders termed as “blood compensation”.
The bizarre case was heard at a traditional court under tort law.
A tort is an act or omission that gives rise to injury or harm to another person. It amounts to a civil wrong (invasion of any legal right) for which courts impose liability.
