President tells men to prioritise wives over side chicks
Kenyan President has urged men to stop overspending on secret lovers.
President Uhuru Kenyatta instead told men to prioritise their women over ‘mpango wa kando’ a Swahili phrase for illicit lover – otherwise known as ‘ashika’ for Arab speakers.
“When some men get money, they go for secret lovers in the streets. They forget they left their wives at home. They spend all the cash leaving their families in poverty… please men, let’s change,” Kenyatta was quoted by the Stars Newspaper.
Kenyatta is also the chair of the East Africa Community (EAC).
The President regretted that some Kenyan men, especially, take loans using family properties like land (title deeds) to treat their ‘mpango wa kando’ (secret lovers) instead of uplifting the whole family.
“The problem of getting title deed is that when the man gets it, he feels it’s his own property and does not need others,” he said.
“He goes to the bank to loan some money but when he leaves the bank, he spends it on his secret lovers.”
Uhuru urged men to mend their way of doing things and act responsibly for the sake of their future and that of their children.
President is serving a second and final term in office and he is set to leave office by the end of the year.
Kenya is set to hold a general election on August 9 after election. The new president, though, will officially resume power three months (in December) after the election.
