President Kiir hosts Norwegian leaders
President Salva Kiir yesterday hosted a delegation from Norway headed by the Minister of International Development, Anne Tvinnereim. According to the statement issued by the Office of the President on its Twitter page yesterday, the Norwegian minister ‘‘asserted that the government of Norway would continue to support the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.’’
In attendance were the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Mayiik Ayii Deng.
The meeting came a day after the Norwegian official led a delegation to visit Jonglei State governor Denay Chagor over the weekend. Tvinnereim and the Royal Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan, Siv Kaspersen promised support for Jonglei to roll out various development projects in the state.
Governor Chagor stated that his government’s priorities included the distribution of seeds and tools to local communities, the construction of a dyke, the construction of a drainage system, and so on.
“Governor Chagor briefed the delegates on the progress of the revitalised peace agreement and the security situation in Jonglei,” the statement from the office of the governor read.
“He added that some of the government’s priorities include provisions of seeds and tools to local communities, the construction of a dyke, the drainage system in Bor town and many more.”
