Citizens in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area have revealed significant challenges facing the region’s education system.

Gabrial Ngamakori, the Minister for General Education and Instruction in the Greater Pibor said the education sector in the area is facing numerous challenges which could hinder the development and future prospects of the children.

Ngamakori lamented that despite the State government’s efforts to improve access to education, inadequate infrastructure, and shortage of qualified teachers remain the major challenge in the area.

“I, as the minister has had to offer myself at night to revise some subjects so that I can be able to yeach them. The main problem that we have is lack of teachers and infrastructure,” Ngamakori said.

As state government and communities strive to overcome these obstacles in the education system, Ngamakori said education will help seek innovative solutions that can pave the way for a brighter future and peaceful cohesion.

“You find that every year there is loss of lives and property and destruction of the environment. For these things to stop, we need to educate those who would be able to change the narrative so as to change their behaviours,” he added.

According to the minister, there is only one secondary school in the area with only four teachers attending to the students.

“There are only four teachers running the secondary school and most of them are arts teachers,” Ngamakori said.
