Over 50 amputees receive ‘new limbs’ in Bor

Jonglei State Ministry of Health in collaboration with government of India has set up an artificial limbs and limb fitment camp in Bor State Hospital targeting at least 50 amputees.

According to Atong Kuol Manyang, the Minister of Health, this is part of a collaboration between the government of India and South Sudan where in Juba alone, over 275 amputees are set to benefit from donation of artificial limbs.

The first step the doctors took was coming to Bor to take the measurements of amputees which they already did. According to Atong, the doctor will leave for Juba and return after four days to fix the artificial limbs.

“Most of the people wanted to travel to Juba but now this is an opportunity for you,” she said.

She said the will last two days and urged people of Bor to come in their numbers and benefit from this demonstrated benevolence by the governments of India and South Sudan.

Philip Maker, the chairperson of war disabled in Jonglei State, appreciated the government of India for making it possible to receive artificial limps.

“The number of the registered is low, so I am encouraging colleague weather you are disable of war or accident to come and get free artificial limps which will help in different ways,” said Maker

Akur Mayen, 15, is one of the beneficiaries. She is a pupil at a primary school nearby. She told The City Review that she is excited the doctors had taken her measurements for making of an artificial limb.

“I was facing two challenges in my life, one was the issues of school fees and the second being mobility,” said Akur.
