Over 30 suspected gang members arrested in Bor
At least 30 suspected gang members have been arrested in Bor Town, Jonglei State, following a police crackdown on criminals.
The exercise was launched after several reports of gang violence and other crime-related matters within Bor town.
Jonglei State Police Spokesperson, Gabriel Majok, said the operation that started last week will continue to weed out criminal elements.
“We have more than people 30 arrested. [So far] I don’t know exactly the number of the criminals who have been arrested because we need to collect all the data from different police operation units in town,” Majok told The City Review on a telephone interview yesterday.
“I need some time to find out from the operational units. The operation is going [on] well and it is in progress; more criminals will be apprehended,” he added.
However, Gen Majak said the number could reduce after investigations. He added, “not all are criminals, we are going to screen them after carrying out an investigation.”
Early this week, the Head of Joint Operation Unit, Brig. Gen Ajak Ayuen Mach reported that they have nabbed 28 suspected members of criminal gangs in an operation following rising levels of crime in Bor town.
He said the 28 suspects were under police custody waiting for an investigation.
It was not clear what crimes had been committed by the suspects but the police official said they have recorded several criminals in the town.
The Governor of Jonglei State, Denay Jock Chagor had directed police to arrest the criminals and bring them to book to curb crimes in the state.
