Over 20 shops gutted as fire ravages Amiet Market

At least 25 shops have been burnt after a sudden fire outbreak ravaged Amiet Market in Abyei Administrative Area.
The fire outbreak, according to the Abyei Security Adviser, Kelek Kon, was a result of whirlwinds.
“There was firebreak last night in Abyei Market which gutted 25 shops including restaurants, tea cafes, and pharmacies,” Kon was quoted by Radio Tamazuj to have said.
The Security Adviser revealed one trader who attempted to secure his goods was injured in the process but no death was recorded.
“Just one trader was injured after trying to rescue his good[s] from the blaze. He was taken to [the] hospital. No other human injuries have been recorded,” he told Radio Tamazuj.
Kon said the blaze consumed the eastern of the market, including the bus park.
“The fire outbreak took place in the Amiet Market when the winds were blowing speedily around 11 pm. The fire consumed the eastern part of the Market up to Bus Park,” he said.
The Security Adviser said authorities were still establishing additional damages caused by the fire adding that no concrete information is currently available.
Sources on the ground told The City Review that the fire started near around a fuel container before burning food and non-food items to ashes.
