More than 100 women in Kuwti Hospital and Juba Teaching Hospital have received Mothers’ Day package in a form of polythene bags packed with wearables and detergents.
The packages, delivered South Sudan Women’s Advocate Association, were meant to help mothers deal with challenges during delivery and menstrual cycle.
Bikita Alfred, a member of the association, said the association decided to support the mothers in the selected hospitals because of the myriad of challenges they go through.
“We also realised that some women give birth in the hospital without even a piece of cloth or anything to carry their babies. So, we decided to provide them with what we could according to our capacity,” said Bakhita.
“I am very happy today. I didn’t even know that it was mother’s day, I am lucky because these things will push for good weeks,” said one of the beneficiaries at Juba Teaching Hospital.
Pimer Foska, a midwife at the Juba Teaching Hospital said that she is happy to be a midwife and a mother as well.
“I am proud of myself because my work here is to support mothers giving birth and watching a woman giving life to another person that is the baby makes me very feel very happy and I want everyone to know that a mother is a very special person in the world of today,” she said.
Foska added that the South Sudan Women’s Advocates Association has helped mothers who received the package because some women really need help.
“I feel sad sometimes because we do see a lot of women who come in here with only the cloth they putting on so we end up helping them with our own clothes,” she said.
