At least one person was killed and two others were injured in a revenge attack in Koch County of Unity State on Wednesday.

Brigadier Gen. John Jock Chany, the County police director said the attack was believed to be a revenge killing.

He said two people who got injured were referred to the hospital for treatment.

“The person who planned the revenge got information that the needed person was in the market taking tea.”

He said the attacker comes from a village within Koch.

“The person who was involved in the killing of the 43-year-old man was identified by local authorities but he was not arrested as he ran away,” Gen Jock said.

Unity State has witnessed episodes of revenge attacks in recent times.

Early last month (December), at least four people were murdered in a revenge attack in Unity State’s Panyijiar County, to avenge killings from clashes that happened in the area in 2018, a local government official said.

The county commissioner, Gabriel Magok Bol, confirmed the killings to the media, saying the incident was linked to revenge.

“The people who planned the revenge attack got information that the four people were traveling to another village within Panyijiar and attacked and killed them,” he told Radio Tamazuj. “Those who were involved in the killing of four civilians were identified by local authorities but were not arrested because they ran away from where the incident took place.”

“We directed the security personnel to arrest those who were involved in the murders. The situation is now under control and the criminals run away from the area,” he added.
