Nyirol County endorses Kiir, backs 2024 poll

Some residents of Nyirol County, Jonglei State, have endorsed President Salva Kiir as their preferred candidate in the upcoming presidential election.

According to the statement seen by The City Review, the residents, who are members of SPLM, held a gathering over the weekend where they also supported the idea of holding the election.

“The people of Nyirol County in Jonglei State have come together to unanimously endorse President Salva Kiir Mayardit as a candidate in the upcoming election,” the statement read.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner of Nyirol County, Bol Makuei, argued that elections are the only way to get power from citizens, not violence.

He added that politics is about give and take, and as such, it is imperative for the people of Nyirol County to realise that politics is not dictatorship but democracy.

Bol promised that people in Nyirol County would continue to support SPLM and its leadership to ensure that services are delivered to the people.

“On behalf of the SPLM in Nyirol County, I affirm that the people of Nyirol are ready to support the position of the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Party (SPLM) in regards to the upcoming elections in December,” he said.

He appealed to the residents to embrace peace among themselves and with their neighbours to allow development in the area.

Meanwhile, Michael Ruot Koryom, a senior SPLM member and also a member of the NLC, said that there is a need for the residents to love one another and focus on supporting the government.

He appealed to the people of Nyirol to continue to support the government.

“Nyirol County will prove her overwhelming support for Cde Salva Kiir Mayardit’s candidature during the presidential election in December 2024,” he said.

Other stakeholders present at the occasion were Cde Michael Ruot Koryom and Cde Kueit Bayak Gill, among many other officials and members of the SPLM.
