There were no criminal activities recorded in Warrap and Lakes states during the Christmas celebrations, the respective authorities have reported.

Ring Deng Ading, the Minister of Information and Communication Service of Warrap State, said the people managed to celebrate without any bloodshed as opposed to the previous years when a lot of criminal activities were recorded in the same period.

He said there was optimism that the same situation would be in the New Year celebrations as people head into 2022.

Deng said he had to check on the police records at Kuajok Police Station situated in Warrap State capital and found out that no cases were reported.

“We have not got any wrong information. It may be about the killing of somebody or somebody involved in an accident. For the first time, it was a very good thing for us because people enjoyed the days without any violence, “Deng told The City Review in a telephone interview yesterday.

Lakes State Police Spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor also revealed that they had only recorded one motorcycle accident and that the victim was being treated at Rumbek Hospital. He said the police had not received any criminal cases following the deployment of the security in all streets and public places.

“The town was parked with many people enjoying the days, and they have concluded it with the governor’s cup, where there was a football competition among the youth as one way to unite them,” Mabor said.

“Rumbek town has been one of the most dangerous areas in the last few years. But now it is a peaceful place because people are moving at night without anything happening to them because of the security that has been put in place, “he added.

Last week before Christmas day, Lakes and Eastern Equatoria state governments boosted security and upped the implementation of the COVID-19 restrictions to contain the virus and crimes during the Christmas festive season.

The Minister of Information and Communication for Eastern equatorial State, Patrick Oting, said the state government was ready to celebrate Christmas with strict adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures. The same was replicated in Lakes State, where the local government took the necessary measures and mobilised a good number of security forces who have been patrolling the town and other counties during the Christmas festive season.
