Nimule Murder : President Kiir hunts down alleged killers of Madi Chief

President Salva Kiir has directed the Heads of Security to bring the perpetrators of Nimule Killings to book.

A a local chief was among the two people shot dead in Nimule on Monday morning. Theincident happened just a day after president Kiir said on July 9 that government would seriously deal with perpetrators of inter-communal violence.

The president has since summoned high level security agents to promptly deal with the insecurity in the country.

“The President expressed concern on the prevailing security situation in Nimule town and directed the security apparatus to address the situation with immediate effect in order to return the town to normalcy as well as bring the perpetrators responsible for the incident to book,” read the statement from the office of the president.

This came hours after the Governor of Eastern Equatoria State – Louis Lobong Lojore called upon the national government to direct cattle keepers to leave Nimule.

“I call on the national government to urgently intervene to avoid daily loss of lives in the Nimule corridor and disruption of the movement of people and goods in the country by making the Dinka Bor cattle keepers leave Nimule and other areas within Magwi County,” the governor added.

Lobong urged citizens of Eastern Equatoria State to embrace a peaceful coexistence by desisting from conflict and tribalism. He promised that his government would bring to book the perpetrators.

John Ebele Alex, the Madi chief was shot dead along with three others in Nimule town on Monday during the fundraising event for burial of two people who were killed in Mugali Payam last Sunday.

However, the police arrested the suspected murderer on the same day.
