Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) Governor, Simon Ober in his briefing to the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs, Hon. Madut Dut Yel, on Monday, said there are emerging concerns that require joint efforts, despite the border regions of the state remaining relatively calm.
According to the Governor, cross-border movement from Sudan and sporadic incidents of inter-communal tensions are the key emerging challenges affecting the regions. He stressed that proactive communication with the national government is essential to managing such challenges effectively.
The meeting between the two senior government officials focused on strengthening coordination and collaboration on matters of security, both within the state and along the shared border with Sudan.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Governor Mawut said, “The visit was not only to extend congratulations to Hon. Madut for his recent appointment, but also to discuss the general security situation in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.”
“He emphasized on the importance of coordination between national and state-level authorities to ensure peace and stability.
On his part, Hon. Madut promised government support to the Governor Ober’s administration.
“The office of the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs is ready to work closely with you and the government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal,” Hon. Madut Dut Yel said. “We pledge our unwavering support to help you strengthen security in the state and along the common borders with neighboring Sudan.”
The Advisor noted that border-related security concerns are of national interest and need a joint approach, especially given the current situation in Sudan. He encouraged continuous sharing of information and regular consultations between state and national security institutions.
Observers view this meeting as an important step in building stronger relations between the state and the office of the Presidential Advisor on Security Affairs. The cordial engagement reflects a growing recognition of the importance of cooperative leadership in addressing security challenges, especially in regions with sensitive border dynamics.
Governor Mawut reaffirmed his commitment to peace and called on citizens of Northern Bahr el Ghazal to cooperate with local authorities to maintain stability. “Peace and security are a shared responsibility,” he said.
The meeting concluded with both leaders agreeing to maintain close communication and to prioritize security coordination in the months ahead. The visit was widely seen as a reflection of the Governor’s proactive leadership and the national government’s commitment to supporting state authorities in the maintenance of law and order.
