More than 30 dead in Tonj North

Warrap State officials have condemned the latest insecurity incident that left over 30 people dead.

The attack happened at Akop village, Akuach Payam in Tong North County, on the night of Thursday.

According to state Ministry of Information and Communications of Ring Deng Adiing preliminary investigation showed the attackers came from the neighbouring state.

“Armed youth stormed the village at around 4:00 pm with the main intention of raiding the cattle and when their motive aborted, they then resorted to kill the villagers.

“They killed more than 30 people, including women and children who were fishing in the nearby river. Scores were wounded,” Deng told City Review via phone.

Warrap have been experiencing a spate of violence in the past weeks.

On June 21 one person died while two were wounded in an attack by the armed youth.

“We demand the citizens of the two neighboring states to refrain from any criminal activity,” Deng appealed.

Deng further called for the two (state) governments to arrest perpetrators of past crimes.

“We demand the government of Unity State to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book to prevent the families of the victims from taking revenge.
