A mobile court in Leer County has sentenced three men to 16 years in prison over rape and murder charges.

The mobile court was established last week (April 15) by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in partnership with the Unity State government.

Madeng Latjor Madeng Unity State Public Prosecutor and acting legal Administrator confirmed the incident.

“Each of the suspects were had their sentences. The one suspected to have raped the 15-year-old girl was sentenced to seven years in prison and charged 600,000 South Sudanese Pound (SSP) as well as two cows to pay to the family of the victim. Another rape suspect was sentenced to three years in prison and charged 2,000,000 SSP. Finally, the murder suspect was sentenced to six years and charged 80 cows as blood compensation,” he said, adding that the suspects were responsible for murder, and two rape cases.

“One raped a 15-year-old girl, another a 17-year-old girl and the other committed murder.”

He said the two girls are recovering from the hospital.
