The office of the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar has refuted the claims that it has relieved the sectoral commander. Gen. Simon Otong Liah Chie from his position and replaced him with Gen. Puok Kong.

This comes after a statement went circuiting on social media claiming that Dr Machar’s office has fired Gen. Liah and replaced him with Gen. Puok Kong as SPLA-IO Commander.

The letter claimed that Gen. Otong’s removal was a result of failure to resolve disputes between the forces loyal to Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual and that of SPLM/SPLA-IO in Akob East/Kier area.

However, in response to the letter, the SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations who doubles as Machar’s Acting Press Secretary Puok Both Baluang described the letter as “merely fake” which is meant to confuse the public.

“That is fake, first of all, I have no authority to relieve, or appoint senior Generals in any position even anyone to any position in the party. I can’t know exactly who is creating all this? But I believe this is our enemies trying to make confusion among the public,” he cited.

He said it has become a common practice where malicious people try to forge the signatures of some people to create negative information against individuals.

“Yes, I have seen it, [it] is totally fake. We have also witnessed this several times, and it has become a phenomenon for some people to do all this, but [it] is important for the media to cross-check the stories before circulating them widely,” he said.

He urged the public and media houses to give the right information to the public, reiterating their commitment to cooperate with all the media houses whenever they need any information from their side.

“We are here, and we are ready to cooperate with every media [house] that want clarifications about any rumours, that will be the only way forward,” he added.
