Lobonok association donates food items to IDPs

The Lobonok Development Association (LDA) has donated food to nearly 2,000 internally displaced people who are sheltering in Gumbo.

The IDPs sheltering in Gumbo were displaced by cattle keepers from Lobonok Payam of Central Equatoria State.

Speaking during the handover of the items to the IDPs leaders in Juba on Tuesday, Najat Sule Lado, the group representative, said if they joined hands together, they would be able to contain the situation of the IDPs living in Gumbo.

“These people require more than what we can offer them right now. As an organisation, we did our best to ensure that our internally displaced individuals had something to eat, but we still need to step up and do more to keep pushing for their rescue from starvation, “she stressed.

“Let us not wait for someone to come from somewhere to assist our people; otherwise, we will lose our people to famine. I’m appealing to our friends and neighbours to lend a helping hand, “Ms. Lado said.

She appealed to the government and NGOs to speed up and provide food and related items to support the IDPs.

Ms. Lado urged the IDPs to share what little they have been provided among themselves as they continue to lobby for more help.

Meanwhile, the representative of the IDPs, Gaudensio Morobe, commended the group for their humanity towards the poor individuals who did not have any option but to wait for their awful moment of death due to starvation.

“We have no words to express our gratitude for your help. We are not baggers, but some powerful people have put us in this position. However, our prayers are that God bless you and those who are attempting to assist us, “he said.

He added that the children and the elderly are in more need of assistance as the rainy season approaches.

Maize flour, cooking oil, sugar, and beans are among the essential food items donated to the IDPs by the Lobonok Development Association.
