Leaders of Jonglei Civil Society authorized to assume duties

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Jonglei State has finally authorised the newly elected leaders of the Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN) to assume duties after the failure of the former chairman of the network to handover office and files.
The Chairman of RRC in Jonglei State, Tuor Majok Guech, in a statement extended to the City Review, said the RRC had given their consent for the new leadership to take over the office.
“The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) would like to inform the above entities and the public in general about the newly elected leadership of Jonglei State Civil Society Network (JSCSN),” Tuor said.
“The above persons are henceforth authorised by the RRC office to conduct the activities for and on behalf of the Jonglei Civil Society Network. The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission is hereby directing all agencies in the humanitarian fields and other actors to cooperate and work with the new leadership in discharging their duties to support the population in the state. “
The former chairman of the Jonglei Civil Society Network (JSCN), David Garang Goch, had reportedly been refusing to hand over the office and files since the new team was appointed to the office.
Election
On January 21, 2022, the General Assembly of Jonglei Civil Society Network, which was attended by members of the 43 civil society organisations in Jonglei State, elected new leadership to lead the network for the years 2022/2024.
It was not long after that the former chairman arrested the new chairman, but the case was later referred to the RRC to settle as the umbrella organisation.
On Wednesday, the new leader of the JSCN said that the network had been experiencing wrangles ever since the election was held after the term of the former chairman ended in December 2021.
“Upon the election of the new executive leadership of JCSN on January 21, 2022, the former Chairperson, Mr David Garang Goch created an unnecessary wrangle, refusing to hand over the office to the new leadership even when his term ended since December 2021,” Bol said.
“Because of this refusal that planted confusion in the civil society arena in Jonglei State, Jonglei State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) had to intervene since it is the Registrar and Regulator of all NGOs in the State. This intervention will clear the doubt not only amongst the CSOs/CBOs/NNGOs but also the government, UN Agencies, and INGOs and the public at large,” he added.
New leaders
The new leadership of the Jonglei Civil Society Network (JSCN) authorised by RRC is as follows: the chairperson is Bol Deng Bol, deputy chairperson is Rebecca Nyakilany, the Secretary-General is Isaiah Kuch Maluk, the deputy secretary-general is Peter Ajak Ayom, the finance secretary is Oburak Joseph Marko and the information secretary is Michael Gai Tong.
