President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing security and expediting critical infrastructure projects in Unity State.

The President made these remarks during a meeting with Unity State Governor Riek Biem Top in Juba on Thursday.

In a media briefing, Governor Biem highlighted that Unity State is experiencing relative stability despite isolated incidents. He emphasized that the state government is intensifying efforts to address criminal activities and ensure the safety of its citizens.

Governor Biem also discussed key infrastructure projects with the President, including the construction of roads linking Unity State to Warrap and Lakes States.

These developments come at a time when tensions have threatened South Sudan’s hard earned peace, especially in the Upper Nile region, with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the East African Community, among other bodies calling for restraint and peace.

In light of these challenges, President Kiir’s focus on Unity State’s stability and development is seen as a crucial step toward maintaining peace and promoting economic growth in the region.

The President’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly the construction of roads connecting Unity State to neighboring Warrap and Lakes States, is expected to enhance trade and mobility, thereby improving the livelihoods of local communities.

As South Sudan navigates this critical period, the government’s actions in Unity State may serve as a model for addressing security concerns and fostering development in the region.
