Jonglei State Governor, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, in collaboration with Senior Presidential Advisor, Kuol Manyang Juuk, has launched the Jonglei Agricultural Farm Project.

The flag-off ceremony marks the beginning of a comprehensive initiative focused on the entire food value chain to increase agricultural productivity, and enhance food security in the state.

Kuol Manyang Juuk, who presided over the ceremony at the proposed agricultural farmlands earmarked for allocation to farmers across Jonglei State in areas including Baidit and Jalle, declared that the launch signifies the start of an agricultural revolution in the region.

He added that Jonglei State aims to reclaim its historical position as the nation’s food basket and become a key driver of agricultural development in the country.

“The reforms we have implemented are designed to elevate agriculture as the primary pillar of the state’s economy. We recognize the vast potential of the agricultural sector and its significant impact on the overall development of Jonglei State. Consequently, we have put in place a series of strategic measures to actively promote and support agricultural activities,” Juuk emphasized.

He further recalled Jonglei State’s past agricultural prosperity, stating, “Jonglei State was once a major source of agricultural wealth in the eastern region. Our deliberate policies aim to reignite this agricultural revolution within the state.”

On his part, Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok reiterated his administration’s commitment to transitioning from subsistence farming to mechanized agriculture through the acquisition of both light and heavy machinery.

“This initiative will support small-scale farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs in expanding the production of key crops such as wheat, onions, tomatoes, maize, rice, cassava, mangoes, sugarcane, coffee, and bananas. Our goal is to significantly improve food security across the state,” he explained

The Governor also commended the residents of Mathiang Boma in Baidit Payam for maintaining peace in the area.

He noted that since he assumed office, there has been notable progress in fostering inter-community harmony, peace, and socio-economic development among the people of Baidit and their neighboring communities.

He urged all stakeholders to work together towards achieving food security in Jonglei State.

“My administration is determined to sustain the momentum of this launch and even surpass its initial goals,” Governor Riek affirmed.

“We are here to work alongside you. We will provide all the necessary support you require.”

Dr Gai said their primary mission is to serve the people, who are at the forefront of all our programs.

“This flag-off is just the beginning; we will be expanding our efforts to other designated locations for a wider variety of crops,”
