Gov’t send forces to troubled Nimule

The governor of Eastern Equatoria, and the country’s top security officers, have deployed armed forces to Mugali Payam, Nimule.

The deployment is expected to safeguard the area and encourage the people to return to their deserted homes following the recent raid by suspected herders from neighbouring regions.

“A security force has been deployed in Mugali to keep law and order and facilitate the smooth return of citizens to the area,” the statement from the office of the governor read.

Yesterday, the governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore, called upon the people living in Mugali Payam to return to their villages, with an assurance of security from the deployed security forces.

“The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore has encouraged the people of Mugali Payam to return to their villages, as the security Forces restored law and order in the restive area,” the statement continued.

On Wednesday, over 20 people were killed after an attack on a cattle camp in Nimule, Eastern Equatoria State, forcing the people to evacuate their homes for Nimule town, while others crossed the border to seek refuge in Uganda.

Approximately 10,000 cattle were raided according to Panther Pat Makurdit, the Secretary-General Bor Community Youth in Nimule.
