Governor Ngor directs legislators to amend state constitution

The governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Tong Akeen Ngor has directed the newly sworn-in members of the State Revitalized State Transitional Legislative Assembly (R-TLA) to amend the constitution for effective service delivery.
Speaking during the swearing-in in capital Aweil, Governor Ngor stressed the need for all the arms of the state government to unite for tangible service delivery to the people.
“I hope you are energetic to discharge your duties full of strength and with ambitions of serving your great citizens in the state. I want to thank you once more for being patient waiting for this historical day,” he said.
“The amendment of the state constitution is your urgent role after assembly conduct of the business review, whereof, it must be concurrent with national parliament and other state assemblies as well. You should enact viable laws after wide consultation with people, lobby groups and partners. We must prioritize on-the-job training for MPs as expected.”
Ngor said the inauguration of the state assembly was a milestone in the building of trust and confidence for peace and unity to breed among the state citizens.
“The swearing-in and inauguration of the members of revitalized state assembly mark a significant milestone in the process for full implementation of the provisions in the R-ARCSS in our state and the country,” he said.
“Our collective responsibilities and mandate are to implement revitalized peace agreement to build trust, confidence, reconcile our great citizens to live in peace and harmony so that the services are delivered.”
He further directed the assembly to discharge duties for transparency and accountability to outshine malpractices in the state.
Governor Ngor added that he was happy that both the speaker and the deputy speaker were females which he said demonstrates the 35% women affirmative action.
“Moreover, as you are the one enacting laws, passing our resolutions, ratifying and indorsing whatever we do as Executives, our communities are indeed expecting more from us in terms of good governance, sufficient services delivery, development and it is your sole and binding responsibility to make sure that all executive must be supervised, guided and account for what deems inappropriate, to deliver services to local communities. Thus, our cooperation is very crucial,” he added.
He called for the protection of citizens to avoid a repeated attack on the civilians by the Misseriya.
Donations
Nearly two weeks ago, the governor donated SSP 1.5 million to the victims of the Misseriya attacks at Yinh Pabol, in Aweil East County.
The press secretary in the office of the governor, Emmanuel Dhel Peter, said the governor had promised to donate additional support so that the displaced persons could resettle to their homes.
“The governor went to Yinh Pabol on Wednesday to assess the situation and donated SSP 1.5 million to those whose houses were burnt to rebuild them, and he promised to donate more soon,” Dhel explained.
He said the situation was calm and most people had returned to their respective homes to rebuild their livelihoods.
The governor according to a statement posted by the office of the governor lauded the well-wishers for raising funds, food and non-food items to support the victims of Yinh Pabol attacks as well as the 3rd Infantry Division for their provision of security to the people.
Other developmental activities include the construction of the University of Northern Bahr el Ghazal that is currently in progress among other major developmental strategies.
