The Warrap State State Governor Gen. Aleu Ayieny Aleu has dismissed the claims by the members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SLPM-IO) that he has threatened to kill them.

Gen Aleu said he was tasked by peace partners with two priorities: bringing peace and restoring order in the Warrap State.

“The members of the SPLM-IO need to be reminded that I was tasked by peace partners to implement the agreement. Therefore, I do not consider myself an SPLM-IG but a representative of all the peace partners in the state,” he said in his statement yesterday.

Not me

“The alarming claim that I have threatened members of the IO during the swearing-in ceremony on October 13, 2021, and that I threatened to kill the SPLM-IO post holders, or that I have declared war on the SPLM-IO is false,” Gen Aleu added.

On Monday  Warrap State SPLM-IO Caucus at the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) told the media that the governor’s actions had amounted to the violation of the revitalized peace agreement and called for an immediate solution.

The lawmakers also revealed that Governor Aleu Ayieny Aleu had accused the SPLM-IO members of lack of cooperation and causing insecurity in the state.

They also alleged that governor Aleu had declared war against their constitutional post holders and had also threatened to kill them.

But in his rejoinder statement seen by The City Review on Wednesday, Gen Aleu said the reaction of the SPLM-IO lawmakers was unfortunate as it violates the legislative norms of the August House by reacting to uninvestigated, and unsubstantiated allegations.

He said: “I have been in constant consultative contact with the Chairman of the SPLM-IO and First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, and by agreement with him, has dispatched (on October 12, 2021) the SPLM-IO State Chairman to Kuajok – on my invitation – all these happened before the sudden uproar of the SPLM-IO MPs in Juba.’’

Gen. Aleu said that he considers the negative reaction of the SPLM-IO Members of the Parliament as a pure act of failed coordination, pre-empting the Chairman of the SPLM-IO who has already assigned a senior member on a fact-finding mission in Kuajok.

“I would like to assure the public that the behaviour of the SPLM-IO members of the August House in Juba is politically motivated, and probably, being encouraged by some well-known governor position seekers,” he emphasized

Governor Aleu assured the public that the SPLM-IG in Warrap State was implementing the revitalized peace agreement.

“I am working in harmony with peace partners, including members of the SPLM-IO,” Aleu.
