Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony presided over the inauguration of members of the State Revitalised Transitional Legislative Assembly in Juba on Tuesday.

The governor described the inauguration ceremony as an important milestone that will aid in the process of full implementation of Chapter One of the 2018 Revitalised Peace Agreement aimed at resolving conflict in South Sudan.

“The swearing-in of the members of the state transitional legislative assembly marks an important milestone,” said the governor. “The occasion is a giant step forward in the promotion of a multiparty system and the tenets of democratic governance in CES,” he added.

He pledged the state’s commitment to the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement to rebuild hope and confidence, reconcile citizens to live in harmony and improve the delivery of services.

The governor cautioned the state legislators to desist from divisive politics based on political parties and rechannel the energy on teamwork.

“Strive to drive your decisions collectively and individually to achieve the vision of a united, peaceful, and prosperous state,” the governor stressed.

He argued that this would minimise party-related differences and achieve the vision of a united, peaceful and prosperous state.

Achievements

Governor Adil stated that the CES had established a state development plan that focuses on security and peacebuilding, economic recovery through agriculture and investment, and social services and justice access.

According to the governor, the state development plan focuses on ‘‘guaranteeing a dignified return, resettlement and reintegration management, good neighbourliness promotion, and making Juba city and other urban areas clean, green, and safe.’’

The governor also highlighted major projects that CES has undertaken: These include the rehabilitation of Terekeka – Tindilio- Tali road, Rehabilitation of Kiju road in Lainya town; and rehabilitation of Kajo Keji hospital.

However, Adil outlined some challenges facing the CES, accusing the National Salvation Front (NAS) of causing unnecessary displacement in some rural parts of the state.

“This senseless war is characterised by forced recruitment of the youth by means of abduction for conscription and the constant suffering of the innocent and vulnerable rural people, particularly the women and children,” he said.

He touched on the cases of land grabbing that is perpetrated by the unlawful people in Juba County

“I am particularly drawing your attention to large scale illegal land acquisitions,” he said.

“There is a huge threat of land malpractices looming throughout our state and the threat is all about land grabbing as intensified by perpetrators who grab lands from citizens for their personal businesses,” he said.
