Efforts to strengthen the healthcare system in Central Equatoria State got a major boost after National Health Minister, Sarah Cleto held a meeting with the state Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony to address the state’s evolving health landscape.
According to a statement from the Governor’s press unit, among the key issues discussed in the meeting included the rigorous training of healthcare professionals to fill critical gaps in expertise, implementation of stricter regulations for private health facilities to ensure standardized health service, and joint efforts to combat drug abuse.
“A major component of the discussed strategy further included the comprehensive mapping of primary healthcare centers across the state to optimize reproductive health,” the statement added.
Minister Cleto announced an upcoming joint field visit with the State Minister of Health to Tali Primary Healthcare Center, in Terekeka County in an effort of strengthening health Centers in hard-to-reach areas.
Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to sustain and improve service delivery for the citizens of Central Equatoria. The meeting was also attended by the State Minister of Health, Hon. Najwa Mursal.
The meeting comes barely a week after Members of the Central Equatoria State Transitional Legislative Assembly urged government to establish a dedicated medical support system at the state.
Speaking during the reopening of the third parliamentary session at the Bari Community Center, the legislators highlighted the need for quality personal medical care, saying as policymakers, there health needs should equally be attended to.
“The recent loss of two of our colleagues after short illnesses is a stark reminder that timely medical care can save lives. We cannot afford to wait until tragedy strikes to act,” Clerk of the Assembly, Simon Peter Jonathan, said.
