The Western Equatoria State governor, Alfred Futuyu Karaba, has donated 20 motorbikes to the county education directors and the paramount chiefs. A statement from the governor’s office reveals 10 motorbikes for each institution.

Speaking to The City Review, Alex Daniel, the Press Secretary of Gen. Futuyo, said the bikes would enable the chiefs and county education directors to mobilise pupils to enrol in schools as well as ensure transparency and accountability for the use of the money.

“The Governor, H.E. Gen. Alfred Futuyo, has donated 20 motorbikes, including 10 Senkes and 10 Bajaj to the paramount chiefs and county education directors in Western Equatoria State,” Daniel said.

“The has [been] given to them to facilitate their movement from Payam to Payam and  Boma to Boma in their respective counties.

“[It is also] to ensure there is transparency when it comes to the spending of the SSP100 million, which was given to the county commissioners last week,” he added.

This came two days after Governor Futuyo donated SSP100 million to support and improve the education sector, in which each county got SSP10 million cash on Thursday last week.

All the Western Equatoria State’s County Commissioners were directed to utilise the money effectively and to employ 400 teachers in each county according to grade.

While ordering the enrolment of all children in the next academic year, the governor promised punitive measures against any county that misappropriates the fund.

“Any child found moving around during school hours without attending class will be arrested by the police and the parents or guardians will be sued by the court of law,’’ he warned.

He categorised school fees as follows: primary 1-3 pupils pay only SSP 1,500, while primary 4-6 pupils pay SSP 2,500, while primary 7 & 8-SSP 5,000, and secondary students shall pay 1-4-SSP 10,000 in all schools.
