Food culture exhibition unites South Sudan
The Cultural Trend Network—a cultural exhibitor in South Sudan—teamed up with the South Sudan Council of Churches to showcase South Sudanese cultural foods at the Rio Hotel in Juba over the weekend.
Conducted under the theme “Celebrating Food Diversity to Strengthen Local Resilience and Food Security’’, the event focused on peaceful coexistence through sensitization to the country’s prevailing cultures.
The organisers stated that they targeted government officials, civil society organisations, media houses, artists, youth, and the entire public as the possible conveyor belts of peace messages.
‘‘The primary goal of the South Sudan cultural food festival is to reintroduce value into food systems and food culture while providing members of a community with opportunities to engage in socialisation, entertainment, and the establishment of social networks, which can contribute to the enhancement of community cohesion and the building of social capital within a community,’’ stated CTN in a press release.
‘‘Communities become aware of the necessity of resurrecting their traditional food practices and production as a result of South Sudanese cultural food festivals, resulting in enhanced local resilience and food security.’’
Some of the South Sudanese dishes exhibited were Loburleleng, Nyete, Kombo Samaga, Gadia, Dry Fish, Cassava, Wala Wala, Kisra and Aseed.
