Authorities in Twic East County of Jonglei State have stated that a healthcare facility, Mar Payam Primary Health Care Centre, has been submerged by floods.
Juach Arok, Twic East County commissioner said that most of the residents displaced by the raging waters had moved to higher grounds near the constructed dyke.
“Majority of us are residing along the dyke and highland Palieu, Mar and other areas. So, the Palieu and Dool people are residing along the dyke,” he explained.
The Commissioner stated that despite earlier attempts by the World Food Programme [WFP] to control the flood, their efforts turned futile.
“The water level has risen in Panyagor, but it has not reached the hospital because the hospital is within the town and the dyke is outside the town. So, the water will reach the hospital in a few days if they are not going to subside,” Arok said.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) report notes that more than 1.3 million people across 42 counties including Abyei Administrative Area have been displaced by heavy flooding this year.
Jonglei, Lakes, Unity, Upper Nile, Warrap, and Northern Bahr el Ghazal are the most affected by the floods, according to the body.
