A former international referee, Lual Maluk Lual, has finally submitted his credentials in compliance with requirements to vie for the South Sudan Football Association’s (SSFA) presidency.
Mr. Maluk’s documents were received by SSFA Secretary General Victor Lawrence Lual on Saturday, May 29, who promised to subject it to vetting by the electoral committee prior to his (Maluk’s) final confirmation as a candidate for the position.
“We have received his (Maluk’s) file [and] there will be examination of all files on June 20 and if there is anything we will communicate later,” said Lawrence.
Maluk, who became the first to declare his candidature early this month, has also become the first aspirant for the SSFA’ presidency to submit credentials ahead of closing date due in June 30.
None of his opponents has shown up, despite four other candidates also declaring their interest in the seat. One of them is the incumbent SSFA president Francis Amin.
Maluk, 39, has promised reforms as his top priority if he assumes office and would use his vast experiences as a former international referee to develop the infrastructure and build capacity of sports in South Sudan and help players grow.
“Corruption is one of the phenomena that cripple progress which I will stand against to ensure the football industry can compete internationally,” he said while giving thanks to the leadership of SSFA for accepting his credentials.
According to Lawrence, the July 2021 general election will be held in a transparent manner to give all the candidates equal chances to contest.
