European embassies in Kenya issue terror alerts to citizens

France, Netherlands and Germany have issued separate terror alerts warning their citizens of probable attacks in various parts of Nairobi, Kenya.

A statement issued by the Dutch embassy in Nairobi cautioned that there were planned terror attacks targeting places frequented by foreign nationals, particularly from the West.

It warned citizens to keep off restaurants, hotels, leisure venues and shopping malls stating that such places remain possible targets of terrorist activities.

‘‘Therefore, people in Kenya are advised to exercise extreme vigilance and avoid frequenting these public places in the coming days including this weekend,’’ the alert noted partly.

Kenya has been experiencing terrorist incidences for more than a decade now since the country’s army ventured into a peacekeeping mission in the neighbouring country, Somalia.

Alshabaab, a Somali-based outlawed militia has taken responsibility for the past bloody attacks that have rocked the country’s capital, Nairobi, the North-Eastern part of the country, and the coastal regions such as Mombasa and Lamu.

The latest attack, which the Alshabaab claimed responsibility for, involved a number of lorries belonging to a Chinese construction company working on the Lapsset project. The vehicles were torched and completely destroyed.
