Ethiopia reactivates eVisa for South Sudan
The Ethiopian government has reactivated online visa applications for South Sudanese as well as the issuing of visas upon arrival at the airport.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ethiopian government, through their embassy in Juba, notified all those who desire to travel to Ethiopia, that online applications have been reactivated and visas are being issued on arrival at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Speaking to The City Review, Temesgen Teshale, the public and economic affairs diplomat at the Ethiopian embassy, said the new initiative is in line with their foreign policy.
He said Ethiopia loves to treat its neighbours fairly and maintain relations.
“The government of Ethiopia cares about equality and the neighbouring countries bordering South Sudan. Ethiopia and South Sudan have good bilateral and the two countries should maintain these relations,” Teshale said.
The Ethiopia e-Visa was introduced in 2017 by the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs of Ethiopia to facilitate entry into the country for tourism purposes.
The eVisa for Ethiopia is a single-entry authorisation that allows one entry into the country. The eVisa is valid for 30 or 90 days, depending on the applicant’s selection during the application.
An approved eVisa allows the traveller to enter Ethiopia via Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
Eligible citizens can complete the Ethiopia eVisa online application form and follow the simple instructions to get the document.
Applicants are required to complete the Ethiopia visa application form with basic personal and passport information to receive an approved Ethiopia eVisa via email.
The Ethiopia eVisa is available for short-term stays for tourism in the country. Those wishing to visit the country for other purposes are required to contact the nearest Ethiopian Embassy or Consulate.
The electronic visa (eVisa) for South Sudan is a digital visa that can be obtained via an online application. It grants the holder authorisation to travel to the country.
The South Sudan eVisa system was implemented in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic to allow foreign nationals to apply from their own homes, without having to come to a South Sudan embassy in person.
It also streamlines the visa application process, with a user-friendly system to help travellers apply more quickly and easily than in the past.
Travelers who have obtained a South Sudan eVisa online can use it to enter the country by air at Juba International Airport, by the river, or by land at the following border crossings.
